It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This year it is impossible to know what Christmas will be like other than it is bound to be different. Within this general uncertainty there is a feeling that this is a year where we all deserve to relish in the pleasures of Christmas — this is the message that is being put out by shops in all different sectors. So, it seems like the pressure is on more than ever for retailers to stock up and deliver on all those things that make it that time of the year; the decorations, gifts, food and more.

There is a relatively long Christmas sale season in Britain, with 53% of the population completing their shopping in October and November, which still leaves a large portion doing last minute purchases, so you need to be able to cover a few months of increased activity.

Christmas is the peak selling season, which means there are increase in customers and revenue but also an increase in stress. Therefore, to take advantage of this boost it is necessary to be properly prepared.

This selling season can be for anyone; as a seller you might not think that your product is very Christmassy but by targeting the right audience with the right message you can also see a peak in sales. For example, you can cash in on the stress of buyers by cashing in on those last-minute shoppers through developing a communication strategy to reach them and by being extra accommodating. For those sellers whose products are more traditionally sought after at this time of the year you can prepare your sales plan based on the following;

Ensure that you develop and advertise special offers, promotions and sales

Have mailing campaigns and know which segments of the market you are going to target and send customised communication e.g. Christmas last minute delivery

Make use of social media effectively and use advertising and PPC campaigns appropriately

Combine online with offline marketing

Optimise your ecommerce pages using SEO strategies content to ensure that people find your store when the Christmas silly season arrives

Carefully monitor your stock as stock levels will fluctuate during the festive season, alternatives are better than running out of stock at this time of the year.

Delivery issues are a big worry for buyers

Offer fast delivery as well as standard delivery options

Send your customers delivery updates
